B-17F Flying Fortress 'Wild Cargo' Giclée Art Print
High quality art print of a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, an American heavy bomber known for its role in World War Two. Produced from 1936, more than 12,000 Flying Fortress bombers were built. The B-17 Flying Fortress was primarily operated by the United States Army Air Force (USAAF), in particular the Eighth Air Force flying from Britain, and the Fifteenth Air Force operating out of Italy. It served a key role in the strategic bombing of Germany from 1943, and in the invasion of France in 1944.
This B-17 Flying Fortress art print depicts 42-30064 'Wild Cargo', a B-17F Flying Fortress which was operated by the 100th Bomb Group of the US Army Air Force. Nicknamed the 'Bloody Hundredth', the 100th are among the best-known bomber squadrons of the Second World War, flying over a hundred bombing missions from RAF Thorpe Abbotts in Norfolk, England. The 100th feature in the 2024 TV series Masters of the Air by Steven Spielberg, itself an adaptation of Donald L. Miller's book by the same name.
