High quality greeting card. Flying Scotsman - designated as LNER 60103, having previously gained fame as LNER 4472 - is a LNER Class A3 (or 'A3 Pacific') steam locomotive, operated by the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) from 1923 to 1963. Following its retirement, Flying Scotsman would go on to 'tour' North America and Australia, before being acquired by the National Railway Museum in York in 2004. In 2016, Flying Scotsman was restored to working condition, and now runs tourist services across the UK.
Flying Scotsman holds two world records for steam locomotives - the first steam train to reach 100mph (achieved 30 November 1934) and the longest non-stop run by a steam train (422 miles across Australia on 8 August 1989). With multiple world records and appearances across the globe, it is no surprise that Flying Scotsman is considered one of the most famous steam locomotives of all time.
