A classic sports car, the Lotus Elan was produced by Lotus Cars from 1962 to 1975; the drop head coupé went by the name Elan 1500, or, less commonly, Lotus Type 26. Just 22 Elan 1500s were produced, before the 1498 cc Lotus TwinCam I4 engine was replaced by a 1558 cc model, and the car was re-designated as the Elan 1600.
