High quality greeting card. Mallard - formally designated as LNER 4468, and nicknamed the 'Blue Streak' - is a LNER Class A4 (or 'A4 Pacific') steam locomotive which was operated by the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) from 1938 to 1963; it is now housed at the National Railway Museum in York.
In 1938, Mallard set the world speed record for a steam train, reaching 126mph just south of Grantham on the East Coast Mainline. The record stands to this day, as does Mallard's legendary status in the history of British rail travel.
