Old Leigh, Essex Giclée Art Print
High quality art print of Old Leigh, the traditional seaside area of Leigh-on-Sea in Southend, Essex. Leigh's history stretches back a thousand years as a fishing port, growing into a prospering port on the route to London by the 16th century. With the construction of the London to Southend railway in the 19th century, however, much of Old Leigh was demolished to make way for the tracks. Old Leigh now refers to the town's seafront south of the railway, while the bulk of Leigh-on-Sea sprawls over the hills north of the railway line.
This illustration shows Old Leigh's famous and historic mud flats in the Thames Estuary. Fishing boats and sailing craft can be seen in the distance. This particular view is the picturesque slipway between two historic local buildings on the cobbled High Street - the Mayflower and Ye Olde Smack, the later historically the hive of smugglers.
This Essex illustration by artist Rob Wisdom is a high-quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper. Our travel poster of Old Leigh can be found here.
