Rayleigh Windmill, Essex Giclée Travel Poster
Giclée travel poster of the Grade II listed Rayleigh Windmill in Rayleigh, Essex. Built in 1809, Rayleigh Windmill is a classic tower mill, with a rotating cap atop a brick tower; this type of windmill has been a classic English landmark for centuries. Rayleigh Windmill is a particularly fine example of a tower mill, standing 60 feet tall thanks to its six story tower. The windmill operated on wind power through to 1907, with the sails removed two years later in 1909.
Today, Rayleigh Windmill is a local museum, and has been since the Rayleigh and District Antiquarian and Natural History Society took over in 1970. A new top and sails were constucted over the following years and installed in 1974; further restoration took place in 2005.
