St Osyth, Essex Giclée Travel Poster

Original travel poster of St Osyth, a village in Essex's Tendring district. The name of the village comes from Saint Osgyth, a seventh-century Anglo-Saxon princess who married King Sighere of Essex. She later became a nun and founded a convent before being martyred in around 700 AD when pirates beheaded her. Over time, the village has been known for St Osyth's Priory and a series of witch trials in the 16th and 17th centuries, during which ten women were hanged.

This St Osyth illustration shows a view from The Bury, facing the Parish Church of St. Peter & St. Paul, which was established almost a thousand years ago in 1188. The current structure, including the tower, is largely from the 14th century, with some later additions.
