High quality art print of a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, a World War Two-era American fighter aircraft. A durable fighter with impressive firepower, the P-47 was one of the heaviest fighters of the war; pilots reportedly bragged that a P-47 could fly through brick walls. 15,636 P-47s were produced from 1941 to 1945, primarily for the United States Army Air Force, and also for the Royal Air Force and French Air Force.
The P-47 (named the Thunderbolt in RAF service) would serve across every theatre of the Second World War, flying a total of 746,000 sorties. Though not particularly manoeuvrable, the P-47 excelled at high altitudes, and could both dish out and withstand impressive amounts of damage; P-47s would claim 3,752 kills to 3,499 lost.
Many P-47 Thunderbolts survive to this day, a good proportion of which are airworthy - particularly in the United States, home to ten airworthy P-47s.
This illustration by Rob Wisdom is a high-quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper.
