Tiptree Windmill, Essex Giclée Travel Poster
Giclée travel poster of Tiptree Windmill, more formally known as Messing Maypole Mill, in the village of Tiptree, Essex. A four story tower mill, Tiptree Windmill was built in 1775, and was used for milling right through to 1962 - though, from 1911 onwards, using a motor rather than wind, with the sails being removed in 1927. Today, Tiptree Windmill is a private residence - and, despite the lack of sails, it is still a beloved Tiptree landmark.
Tiptree itself is a growing village, with a population approaching 10,000 - but its history only starts relatively recently, with the area being little-used except by smugglers for most of history. A farming revolution - driven in no small parts by Wilkin & Sons - saw Tiptree begin to flourish in the Victorian period.
