Birch, Essex Giclée Art Print
Premium Giclée illustration of the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Birch, Essex. Nestled in the Essex countryside south of Colchester, not far from Abberton Reservoir, Birch Church - as the church is most commonly known - is a major landmark in the rural landscape, with its spire rising 110 feet into the air. Designed by noted architect Samuel Sanders Teulon, Birch Church was built in 1850, and was an active Church of England church for over a century before its closure in 1990.
Since its closure in 1990, Birch Church has come under threat of demolition, which has been passionately opposed by local residents and by campaigners from across Essex, such as the SOS Save Our Spire group, who have recently been in talks with the Diocese of Chelmsford who own the church. If you believe, as we do, that Birch Church and its iconic spire would be a tragic loss, sign the petition here.
