High-quality art print of Braintree, a town in Essex. The town's history stretches back as far as the Iron Age. The Romans built a road through Braintree, which the Anglo-Saxons later named Stane Street (which it is still called to this day). Throughout the medieval period the town was an important centre in the cloth trade, bolstered by Flemish immigrants. This gave way in the Victorian era to silk manufacturing - remembered today by the Warner Textile Archive.

The star of this illustration is Braintree Town Hall, a Grade II* listed building designed by architect Vincent Harris - who designed many town halls up and down the country - and built from 1926 to 1928. The statute on the top shows a cherub looking in a mirror, and was sculpted by Hermon Cawthra. Braintree Town Hall overlooks Market Square, and was from 1928 to 1974 home to Braintree and Bocking Council. Since 2012, when the building was refurbished, it has served as an events venue for the local community.

This Essex illustration by artist Tom Wisdom is a high-quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper.

12x16" print shown. Cropping and title position (if applicable) may differ slightly on 'A' size prints.
