Spitfire P7743 (Brentwood) Giclée Art Print
High-quality art print of Spitfire P7743 'Brentwood', a Mark IIA Spitfire that flew with No. 118 Squadron RAF, with the markings NK-Q. As a 'presentation Spitfire,' P7743 was funded not by the military, but by a fundraising campaign. Many such Spitfire funds ran in Britain and overseas, raising over £13,000,000 - enough to fund over 2,500 Spitfires at £5,000 apiece.
The Brentwood Spitfire Fund raised £6,100, which it presented to the Air Ministry in Spetember 1940. Other funds in Essex paid for Spitfires R7065 (Chelmsford), R7066 (Galleywood), and P8677 (Colchester & District), among others.
Spitfire P7743 had an exceptionally busy career. It was flown by, in order: No. 9 Maintenance Unit, No. 66 Squadron, No. 118 Squadron, No. 403 (RCAF) Squadron, No. 54 Squadron, back to No. 403 (RCAF) Squadron, No. 457 (RAAF) Squadron, No. 61 Operational Training Unit, No. 3 Delivery Flight, back to No. 61 OTU, and finally No. 52 OTU. In this time, it was based from the following airfields: Cosford, Exeter, Warmwell, Ternhill, Martelsham Heath, Debden, Andreas, Heston, Hawarden, and Aston Down.
