Chappel Viaduct, Essex Platform Poster

Built in 1849 by the Eastern Union Railway, the Chappel Viaduct is to this day one of the most iconic structures in East Anglia - and no wonder! At approximately 320 metres long, Chappel Viaduct is both the longest bridge in East Anglia, and one of the country's largest brick-built structures of any kind; it was these accolades that contributed to the viaduct being Grade II listed in 1967.
Chappel Viaduct carries the Gainsborough Line across the River Colne, connecting Marks Tey in Essex to Sudbury in Suffolk, by way of Chappel & Wakes Colne station (Essex) and Bures (Suffolk). Before the Beeching cuts in the 1960s, the line had been known as the Stour Valley Railway, and continued as far as Shelford in Cambridgeshire, just outside of Cambridge proper.
This Essex illustration by artist Rob Wisdom is a weatherproof PVC scuff-proof posters as currently featured in stations throughout Essex and South Suffolk.
