Chelmsford Cathedral, Essex Giclée Art Print
High quality art print of Chelmsford, the county town of Essex. Chelmsford is the seat of the Diocese of Chelmsford, the Church of England's second-largest diocese, which covers Essex and parts of outer London which were traditionally parts of Essex. Chelmsford itself is a flourishing modern city with a history that stretches back to the Roman period.
Depicted in this illustration is Chelmsford Cathedral, the second-smallest cathedral in England. Chelmsford Cathedral originated as a parish church - known as the Church of St Mary the Virgin - sometime around 1200, before being elevated to cathedral status in 1914 with the creation of the Diocese of Chelmsford. The cathedral is on New Street, just around the corner from the Shire Hall on Tindal Square at the head of Chelmsford High Street.
