Coggeshall, Essex Giclée Travel Poster
Giclée travel poster of Coggeshall, a small town in Essex. Coggeshall's history can be traced back to the Roman period, but it wasn't until the Anglo-Saxon period when it gained it's name - then Cogheshala, or 'Cogga's Hall', named after the local landowner. Through the years, Coggeshall played a key part in the wool trade, then the cloth trade - Coggeshall lace, a type of Tambour lace, was worn by monarchs from Queen Mary to Queen Elizabeth II.
Depicted in this Coggeshall illustration is a view of Market Hill in the centre of Coggeshall, showing the famous Clock House with its iconic blue tower. A medieval building, the Clock Tower itself was built as an extension in 1787, with the clock introduced in 1887 as part of Queen Victoria's golden jubilee celebrations.
