Colchester, Essex Giclée Art Print
High quality art print of Colchester, Essex, featuring the view from Trinity Street.
Prominently featured in the illustration is Holy Trinity Church (right), an Anglo-Saxon church dating back to around 1000 AD. This makes it the oldest building in Colchester that is still standing, predating the castle by nearly a century. Buried in the churchyard is William Gilbert (also known as Gilberd), a scientist born in Colchester (at Timperleys). Gilbert is notable for coining the term "electricity" and serving as a physician to Queen Elizabeth I.
Also depicted in this illustration is Colchester Town Hall (centre), the headquarters of Colchester City Council. A Grade I listed building, Colchester Town Hall was constructed between 1897 and 1902, although the site has been in use since at least 1277. The building's tower rises 192 feet (59 meters) and is topped by a statue of Saint Helena, Colchester's patron saint.
