Colchester, Essex Giclée Travel Poster
High quality travel poster of Trinity Street in Colchester, Essex.
At the heart of the illustration is Holy Trinity Church (right), an Anglo-Saxon structure built around 1000 AD. It holds the distinction of being Colchester's oldest surviving building, standing nearly a century older than the castle. Resting in its churchyard is William Gilbert (or Gilberd), a scientist born locally at Timperleys. Gilbert is recognized for introducing the term "electricity" and serving as Queen Elizabeth I's physician.
Also featured in the illustration is Colchester Town Hall (centre), home to Colchester City Council. This Grade I listed landmark was constructed between 1897 and 1902, though the site itself has been in use since at least 1277. The tower, standing at 192 feet (59 meters), is crowned by a statue of Saint Helena, Colchester's patron saint.
