High-quality commemorative art print of Westminster Abbey, illustrated in May 2023 to celebrate the Coronation of Charles III. His Majesty the King ascended to the throne on 8 September 2022 following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The coronation begana long weekend of events across the United Kingdom, and the other Commonwealth Realms such as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, of which Charles is also King. The Coronation ceremony saw Charles III crowned at noon with St Edward's Crown; the moment was marked by 21-gun salutes across the country and on Royal Navy ships across the world. Charles sat upon St Edward's Chair - dating from 1300, and including the 'Stone of Destiny' - as he was crowned.
Westminster Abbey (or, as it is more formally known, the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster) has been closely associated with the Royal Family for almost a millennia. Edward the Confessor was buried at the Abbey in 1066, and since then, the Abbey has hosted thirty-nine coronations, and been the burial place of eighteen monarchs. During this time, the Abbey was rebuilt in 1245, taking on its current form - a stunning triumph of Gothic architecture that has seen the building recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Depicted in this illustration is a view of the Abbey's western facade.
This commemorative illustration by artist Rob Wisdom is a premium Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper.
12x16" print shown. Cropping and title position (if applicable) may differ slightly on 'A' size prints.
