High quality art print of the Vought F4U Corsair, an American fight aircraft known for its role in World War Two and the Korean War. A carrier-based fighter bomber, the Corsair was primarily operated by the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps, and more than 12,000 were produced from 1942 to 1953.

The Corsair entered USMC service in February 1943, and by May of that year the Corsair had proven itself more than a match for the Japanese Zero - it would finish World War Two with a kill ratio of 11:1, with 2,140 air combat victories to 189 defeats. The Corsair also operated as a bomber, particularly in the latter stages of the war. The Corsair would go on to serve in the Korean War, almost exclusively as a close-support bomber. This illustration depicts a U.S. Navy Corsair.

The Corsair was also operated by the Royal Navy - indeed, it was the Royal Navy who designated the F-4U as the 'Corsair'. A total of 2,012 Corsairs were flown by the Royal Navy, taking part in the sinking of the Tirpitz in 1944 and bombing raids on Japan in 1945, among other operations.

This illustration by Rob Wisdom is a high-quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper.
