Original illustration of Earls Colne, a village in the Braintree district of Essex. Earls Colne is the largest of several villages in the area to take its name from the River Colne (and by extension, the Colne Valley) - the others being White Colne, Wakes Colne, and Colne Engaine. The other portion of Earls Colne's name comes from the Earls of - surprisingly - Oxford, who ruled over the Essex village for many centuries. Earls Colne is also noteworthy for Earls Colne airfield, which was used during the Second World War.
Depicted in this illustration is a view down Earls Colne high street towards the 14th-century St Andrew's Church. Also in the illustration is Earls Colne War Memorial, commemorating the people of the parish who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars.
This Essex illustration by Rob Wisdom is a high-quality A5 greeting card.
