Original illustration of Great Bentley, an idyllic village in the Tendring district of Essex. Sitting seven miles to the east of Colchester, Great Bentley is on the 'Sunshine Coast Line', connecting to Walton-on-the-Naze on one branch, and Clacton-on-Sea on another. 

A beautiful countryside village, Great Bentley has been awarded the title of 'Essex Village of the Year' on a total of ten occasions, and is the site of the second largest village green in the country. Also noteworthy is the local parish church, the Church of St Mary the Virgin. Constructed in the 1000s and expanded in the 1200s century, it has the oldest surviving church door in the country.
