High quality greeting card of Kelvedon, a historic village in the Braintree district of Essex. Kelvedon sits on the River Blackwater and grew along the route of the old Roman road between London and Colchester. Though now bypassed by the A12, the village retains much of its historic charm, with a number of period buildings lining its narrow high street.
Depicted in this illustration is the Railway Tavern, a well-known pub located near Kelvedon railway station. The station opened in 1843 on the Eastern Counties Railway and helped transform Kelvedon from a quiet agricultural settlement into a thriving commuter village.Today, the Railway Tavern continues to serve locals and travellers alike, a familiar and welcoming presence just a short walk from the railway station itself.
