Avro Lancaster Giclée Art Print
High quality art print of an Avro Lancaster Bomber, a British heavy bomber of the Second World War. More than 7,000 Lancasters were built, exclusively for British and Commonwealth air forces, and it became one of the most distinctive aircraft of the Second World War.
The Lancaster entered service with the Royal Air Force in 1942, and saw its first operational mission in March of that year over Heligoland Bight. The Lancaster's most famous operation was Operation Chastise, better known as the Dambusters Raid. The Lancaster was also involved in several other high-profile bombing runs, including Operation Gomorrah - the bombing of Hamburg - and Operation Catechism - the sinking of the German battleship Tirpitz. The Lancaster also made humanitarian delivers, such as Operation Manna - dropping food to starving civilians in Holland - and the Berlin Airlift.
This Lancaster bomber art print depicts Lancaster KB889, which is currently on display at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, which was flown by the Royal Canadian Air Force's 'Ghost Squadron' during the Second World War. Today, it is in Royal Air Force colours. Two airworthy Lancasters survive to this day: one in the UK, the other in Canada.
