High-quality greeting card of Layer Marney Tower, Essex. Nestled away in rural north Essex, Layer Marney Tower is one of Britain's finest examples of Tudor architecture - the tallest of all Tudor gatehouses, incorporating the latest architectural fashions from Italy, with an eye-catching blend of brick and terracotta. Today, the tower is a local museum and a popular venue for weddings, anniversaries, and so on, providing a beautiful historic background for the most treasured days in people's lives.
Layer Marney Palace was commissioned in 1520 by Henry, 1st Lord Marney - Henry VIII's Lord Privy Seal - as a statement of his wealth and power. Lord Marney's death in 1523, followed by his heir's in 1525, however, meant that the palace's construction was never completed.
Layer Marney Tower is a Grade I listed building, while its impressive gardens are Grade II listed. From April to September each year, the tower and grounds are opened to the public for visits, and can be rented out for events such as weddings, anniversaries, and birthdays. A vintage London Routemaster double-decker bus is available to bring guests to the Tower, as is a 1931 Rolls Royce 20/25 Maythorn.
