High quality art print of a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning, a multirole fighter jet currently operated (or on order) by fifteen militaries across the world, primarily NATO members. Produced by Lockheed Martin - with contributions from Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems - more than 750 F-35s have now been built. Outside of the United Kingdom, the F-35 is known as the 'Lightning II'.
Three variants of the F-35 are in production: the land-based F-35A, the STOVL F-35B, and the carrier-based F-35C. This illustration depicts an F-35B, ZM151, in Royal Air Force livery. The RAF's F-35 Lightnings are operated by No. 617 Squadron, the Dambusters, and are frequently operated from the deck of the Royal Navy's new aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales - as such, the Squadron has been commanded by officers not just from the RAF, but also from the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
British F-35Bs first saw combat in 2019, having entered service in 2018, undertaking armed reconnaissance flights over Iraq and Syria as part of bombing efforts against ISIS. The aircraft is officially projected to remain in service until 2070.
This illustration by Rob Wisdom is a high-quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper.
