Introduced for the 1987 Formula One season, the Lotus 99T (designed by Gérard Ducarouge) brought a new look to Team Lotus’ racing cars, sporting the vibrant yellow and blue of new sponsor Camel - replacing the black and gold JPS livery that had adorned the team’s cars since the Lotus 72’s debut in 1970. The 99T built upon the earlier 98T, introducing a new active suspension system, and switching from a Renault engine to Honda’s RA166E.

Driven by star driver Ayrton Senna, and by new teammate Satoru Nakajima, the 99T delivered Team Lotus third place in the World Constructor’s Championship. While the car’s superior suspension system allowed it to thrive on street circuits, it’s weight held it back on other circuits. It was on the streets of Monaco and Detroit in back-to-back Grand Prixs that Senna recorded the 99T’s two wins, which would prove to be Team Lotus’ final Grand Prix  victories.

We have also illustrated the Lotus 25, famously driven by Jim Clark.

This illustration by Rob Wisdom is a high quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper.
