The Packing Shed, Mersea, Essex (Christmas) Giclée Art Print
High quality art print of the Packing Shed on Mersea Island, Essex. Mersea is a tidal island in the Blackwater Estuary, connected to mainland Colchester borough by a causeway known as the Strood. Mersea is perhaps best known for its oyster industry, which stretches back to the Roman era.
This illustration depicts the Packing Shed, which was historically used for the cleaning, sorting, and packing of oysters. The Packing Shed was built by the Tollesbury & Mersea Native Oyster Fishing Company sometime around 1890, a response to the high demand for Mersea oysters throughout Europe. Rebuilt in 1897 after a storm, the Packing Shed survives to this day, having been restored by the local community in the 1990s. Today, it hosts various charities and local organisations, and is available for hire by parties.
This Christmas illustration by artist Rob Wisdom is a high-quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper. For our Giclée travel poster of the Packing Shed, click here.
