Messing was named Essex's Best Kept Small Village in 2007 and 2008, and Essex Village of the Year in 2018. Depicted in this illustration of Messing is a view down Kelvedon Road towards Messing War Memorial, and beyond to All Saints' Church; a 14th century church that was heavily refurbished in the 1840s, and is now Grade II* listed.
