Original travel poster featuring Monkey Beach on Mersea Island, Essex. This intriguingly named beach might derive its title from an old coastguard lookout, where the watchmen, caged within, supposedly resembled monkeys to the locals. The real origin, however, may be a mystery lost to history. No matter where the name stems from, Monkey Beach remains a secluded stretch of shoreline, gazing across the water towards Bradwell-on-Sea.
