High quality art print of Mont Ventoux, Provence, also known as 'the Beast of Provence' and 'the Bald Mountain'; the name roughly as 'Windy Mountain', due to the 200mph winds at the summit and on the col des tempêtes ('Pass of Storms') just before it. Though Mont Ventoux is geologically a part of the Alps, it stands apart from them, to the north of the Luberon massif. It rises to a height of 1,909 metres, and overlooks the Rhône Valley.

Mont Ventoux is famous for its inclusion in the Tour de France route - cyclists have ascended the mountain trail in eighteen Tours de France since 1951. On ten occasions, the summit of Mont Ventoux has served as the finish line - including, most recently, Chris Froome's 2013 and 2016 victories. The most common route taken is from the south, starting in Bédoin, climbing to Saint-Estève, and then on towards the summit, where the iconic telecommunications tower stands. Other cycle routes begin at Malaucène and at Sault.

The following cyclists have won Tour de France stages with summit finishes on Mont Ventoux: Charly Gaul, Raymond Poulidor, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Thévenet, Jean-Francois Bernard, Marco Pantani, Richard Virenque, Juen Manual Garate, Thomas de Gendt, and Valentin Paret-Peintre.

This illustration by Rob Wisdom is a high quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper.
