High quality art print of the McDonnell Douglas F-4B Phantom II, an American fighter-bomber jet aircraft. One of the most iconic aircraft of the Cold War, a total of 5,195 Phantom IIs were built, more than any other American supersonic aircraft.
The Phantom II was primarily operated by the United States Air Force, who used it throughout the Vietnam War for air superiority and ground strike; between 1965 and 1973, the USAF deployed 33 Phantom II squadrons to the region. The Phantom II was also used during Operation Desert Storm in 1990, serving primarily as a reconnaissance aircraft. The Phantom II was also operated by the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps; it is depicted in this illustration in US Navy livery.
Outside of the United States, the Phantom II was also operated by several other countries, including the United Kingdom. In British service, the Phantom II was designated the FG1 (fighter/ground attack) and FGR2 (fighter/ground attack/reconnaissance). British Phantoms saw service during the Falklands War, before being phased out for the Tornado and Sea Harrier.
This illustration by Rob Wisdom is a high-quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper.
