Point Clear, Essex Giclée Travel Poster
Point Clear is an Essex coastal destination known for its natural coastal charm. One highlight is Point Clear Bay illustrated here, a scenic stretch of water where the River Colne meets the North Sea, offering views across to East Mersea and Bradwell, and a peaceful atmosphere that attracts visitors looking for a quiet retreat. The tidal waters make it an ideal spot for sailing, and other water-based activities, while the sandy shores provide a perfect setting for leisurely beach days.
A standout feature of Point Clear is the Napoleonic Martello Tower, which rises above the leisure park and adds history to the landscape. Tower A was built in the early 19th century to guard against potential French invasions, and formed part of a network of coastal defences designated from A to K, along the coast from Point Clear to Walton. Today, it is home to the East Essex Aviation Society Museum, as well as being a great vantage point for taking in panoramic views of Point Clear Bay and the surrounding coastline. The museum is home to the recovered local wreck of a P-51 Mustang, a tribute to which can be seen in the top-left corner of this illustration.
Nature lovers will also appreciate the proximity to the Colne Point Nature Reserve, where they can explore a diverse array of birdlife and coastal flora. With its panoramic views, historic Martello Tower, and peaceful environment, Point Clear is an ideal spot for a tranquil getaway in Essex.
