Original travel poster of Purleigh, a village on the Dengie peninsula in the Maldon district of Essex. With a population of just over 1,000 people, Purleigh is a small village with a history that stretches back a thousand years. Featured in this illustration is a view of All Saints' Church, Purleigh. The church was first established in the 14th century.

From 1632 to 1643, the church's rector was Lawrence Washington, whose great-great-grandson George would become the first President of the United States. Lawrence Washington was ejected from Purleigh on charges of being a drunkard, though it is likely that the charges were trumped up, and that the ejection had much to do with the political turmoil of the English Civil War.

This Essex illustration by artist Rob Wisdom is a high-quality Giclée travel poster on cotton-rich fine art paper.

12x16" print shown. Cropping and title position (if applicable) may differ slightly on 'A' size prints.
