Original illustration of a Shelby Mustang GT350. The Shelby Mustang GT350 was a conversion of the 1st generation Ford Mustang, developed by racer driver Carroll Shelby's company Shelby American with motorsport in mind. The cars were built by Ford in San Jose (and, in 1958, in New Jersey), and modified by Shelby at facilities in Venice Beach and later at Los Angeles International Airport, introducing upgraded intake and exhaust manifolds, carburettor, rear axle and brakes. The GT350 proved hugely successful in Gran Turismo (or Grand Touring) Racing, and in doing so earned a place in American automotive history. A 1971 Shelby Mustang starred as 'Eleanor' in 1974's Gone in 60 Seconds, and a 1967 model in the movie's remake in 2000.
Depicted in this illustration is a 1965 Mustang 350GT, from the first year of production. All of these cars were painted in Wimbledon White, with a number featuring Le Mans stripes in Guardsman Blue, as the car in our illustration does. Past 1965, the Shelby Mustang continued in production until 1971 under a number of variants. Included among these were the Hertz Shelby, or GT350H, which were former Hertz rental cars refurbished for public sale after their rental lives, and came primarily in black and gold; the Shelby Cobra GT350, GT500, and GT500KR ("King of the Road" which sported Cobra Jet engines; and the Shelby Europa, of which nine were produced in Belgium in 1971.
This illustration by Rob Wisdom is a high quality Giclee art print on cotton-rich fine art paper.
12x16" art print shown. Cropping and title position (if applicable) may differ slightly on 'A' size art prints.
