High-quality illustration of Southwold, a charming coastal town on the Suffolk coast, where the River Blyth flows into the North Sea. A beloved seaside resort town, Southwold is arguably best known for Southwold Lighthouse, which has been a local landmark ever since its construction in 1890 - visible from 24 nautical miles away thanks to its height, at 31 metres tall. Southwold is also well-known for its beach (lined with brightly-painted beach huts), its pier (almost 200 metres long), and as the home of Adnams brewery.
Depicted in this illustration is a view of St James' Green and nearby St James' Terrace, not far from Southwold Beach. In the foreground one can see Sole Bay Inn, an Adnams pub just a hop, skip and a jump down the road from the brewery where its drinks are made. In the background of this travel poster is a vista over the North Sea, which Southwold Lighthouse overlooks and protects ships travelling upon.
