Spitfire (No. 308 Squadron RAF) Giclée Art Print

Original art print of a Supermarine Spitfire MkIX, in the markings of No. 308 (Polish) 'City of Krakow' Squadon RAF, one of several Polish fighter squadrons that fought in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. This particular Spitfire is MK940, designated ZF-B, painted with 'Invasion Stripes' for its participation in Operation Overlord. During Operation Overlord, 308 Squadron made up part of No. 131 Wing RAF, flying sorties over Juno Beach on D-Day, and later supporting the British and Canadian push to capture the city of Caen.

308 Squadron ranked among the most prolific Polish fighter squadrons in the RAF, claiming 69 kills, with a further 13 probables. 308 was formed in 1940, equipped with the Hawker Hurricane, before moving to the Supermarine Spitfire in 1941. From 1943, 308 became a fighter-bomber squadron, using their Spitfires to strike ground targets through occupied Europe - claiming more than 500 vehicles destroyed, as well as almost 50 ships.
