At first glance similar to Blackbirds, Starlings can be identified by their glossy sheen, and the flecks of purple and green throughout their feathers. A common sight through most of the British Isles, there are an estimated 1.8 million Starlings in the United Kingdom.
However, the Starling is on the RSPB's conservation status Red List, due to a long-term trend of population decline.
