High quality art print of Tollesbury, a  village in north Essex, located near Maldon and Colchester. A coastal village, Tollesbury is affectionately nicknamed the 'village of the plough and sail' by locals, owing to its farming and fishing industries; a sign painted by local artist Sam Rigby shows a ploughman, a fishing smack, and the racing yacht 'Endeavour II,' which competed in the 1937 America's Cup. For centuries, Tollesbury has had a flourishing oyster industry, with oysters from the Blackwater estuary sold across the country.

Depicted in this illustration are The Sail Lofts, a series of Grade II listed buildings on the banks of the Woodrolfe Creek. Built between 1906 and 1908 by the Tollesbury Yacht Berthing Company, the sail lofts were used for the storage of yachts on the ground floors, with local fishermen using the upper floors. The sail lofts fell out of use after the Second World War, but were restored in the 1980s. Today, one of the sail lofts is home to a tearoom - officially called 'The Loft,' but known by locals as 'Tea by the Sea.'

This Tollesbury illustration by Essex artist Rob Wisdom is a high quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper.
