Giclée travel poster of Waltham Abbey, depicting a view down Highbridge Street towards Waltham Abbey Church (or, to use its full name the Abbey Church of Waltham Holy Cross and St Lawrence). The town takes its name from the abbey, which has been on the site since the 7th century - though the current structure was mainly built through the 12th century. Waltham Abbey held incredible importance in medieval England, as the burial site of King Harold Godwinson (the last Anglo-Saxon king of England), and as the last monastery closed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1540.

Waltham Abbey the town is a thriving town in the south of Essex, surrounded by the Metropolitan Green Belt. It borders (by way of the River Lea) Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire, which it was often confused with - until recently, the parish containing Waltham Abbey was known as Waltham Holy Cross, though it has now been renamed as Waltham Abbey, the same as the town.

This Essex illustration by artist Tom Wisdom is a high quality Giclée travel poster. For our classic art print of Waltham Abbey, please click here.
