Bentley Priory, located in Stanmore, North West London, is a historic Grade II listed mansion best known as the RAF’s Headquarters Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain. and from where Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding and Fighter Command forged victory, enabling Britain’s darkest hour to also be her finest hour. He oversaw the development and implementation of the world’s first integrated system of air defence, which became known as ‘The Dowding System’. Today part of the building that includes Dowding’s wartime office, also features a museum highlighting the contribution and importance of ‘The One‘, Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, ‘The Few‘, the aircrew who took to the skies to defend Britain, and ‘The Many‘, without whose tireless work on the ground victory would not have been possible.
