Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex Giclée Travel Poster
Discover a premium art print showcasing the historic Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall in Bradwell-on-Sea, situated on Essex's Dengie peninsula. This artwork captures the essence of the oldest church in England, believed to have been constructed by St Cedd in 654 AD on the remnants of a Roman fort. Initially active for nearly a millennium, the chapel later transformed into a barn before undergoing a meticulous restoration and re-consecration in 1920, reclaiming its status as a fully operational church.
Bradwell-on-Sea, with its roots tracing back to a Roman fort named Othona (later Ithancester), holds a rich history. During the Second World War, the Royal Air Force (and No. 488 Squadron of the RNZAF) operated from local airfield, RAF Bradwell Bay. Today, the village is notable for the decommissioned Bradwell nuclear power station, which functioned from 1962 to 2002, and which can be seen prominently from across the water.
