High quality art print of a Focke-Wulf Fw 190, a German single-seater fighter aircraft of the Second World War era. Along with the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the Fw 190 ("Wurger") was the backbone of the Luftwaffe's fighter forces, the Jadgwaffe. More than 20,000 were produced from 1941 to 1945.
Introduced in 1941, the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 proved itself as one of the best fighter aircraft of the war, significantly outperforming the Royal Air Force's Spitfire Mk V, and dominating on the Eastern Front. With the development of the Spitfire Mk IX, and the turning of the tide on the Eastern Front, however, the Fw 190 lost its advantages over contemporary Allied and Soviet fighters.
Twenty-eight Focke-Wulf Fw 190s survive to this day, in the hands of both museums and private collectors, including two on display at Royal Air Craft museums in the United Kingdom. This illustration depicts A-8/R2 'Sturmbock' model, produced sometime in 1944.
This illustration by Rob Wisdom is a high-quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper.
