High-quality art print of Greensted Church in Greensted, Essex. With a history dating back to between to Anglo-Saxon times, Greensted Church is the oldest wooden church in the world, and quite possibly the oldest wooden building of any variety in Europe. Established as a church in the 7th century, the current structure has been traced back as far as 845.
The iconic weatherboarded tower was added in the 17th century, as was the south porch. Restoration work in the 19th century saw the addition of exterior brickwork, completing the church's present-day appearance. Throughout the period, the Church of St Andrew - as Greensted Church is more properly known - has been a functioning church and held regular services.
