Original art print of a Martin B-26 Marauder, as flown by the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. A twin-engined medium bomber, the Marauder was designed by the Glenn L. Martin Company from 1939, entering service in 1941 and continuing to be manufactured until the end of the war. More than 5,000 were produced in total, flying a total of over 110,000 sorties, and dropping more than 150,000 tons of bombs. Following the end of the war, the Marauder was retired from US service by 1947.

Depicted in this illustration is B-26 Marauder 296142, nicknamed "Dee-Feater." Dee-Feater was flown by the 596th Bomb Squadron, part of the 397th Bomb Group. The 597th were stood up in Florida in April 1943, and equipped from the start with the Marauder. Arriving in England in April 1944, the 597th were soon deployed to RAF Rivenhall. The squadron took part in Operation Crossbow – attacking Germany's V-1 launch sites – and Operation Overlord – striking targets throughout northern France. They then followed the advancing Allied armies across Europe, into France and later the Netherlands.
