Original art print of a de Havilland Mosquito B.XXV; a Canadian-produced variant of the Mosquito B.XX with two two-stage Rolls-Royce Merlin engines.
Depicted in this illustration is Mosquito KB406, as flown by Flt Lt Colin Bell DFC and Flt Lt Doug Redmond. Pilot Colin Bell joined the Royal Air Force in 1940, and initially became a single engine flying instructor in the United States, training American and British Commonwealth pilots. In 1943 he returned to Britain and joined No. 608 Squadron; one of Bomber Command's Pathfinder squadrons tasked with illuminating the targets for large-scale bombing raids. It was there that Bell was joined by Canadian navigator Doug Redmond. Together the pair would complete 50 missions over Germany, including 13 to Berlin.
Both men survived the war. Doug Redmond passed away in 2008, and his son Ian began work on an account of his father's time in the RAF, which was published in 2020 as Bloody Terrified. In 2026, Colin Bell released his own account of the war, Bloody Dangerous.
