Original illustration of a Supermarine Spitfire MkIX with a 'C' type wing. This aircraft, EN473, was piloted by Donald Kingaby.

Kingaby joined the RAF in April 1939, and flew in the Battle of Britain with No. 266 Squadron and No. 92 Squadron. Still with No. 92 Squadron, Kingaby gained some notoriety in 1941 as the '109 specialist', due to his excellent record in shooting down Bf 109s in Circus sweeps over occupied Europe. In 1942 he moved to No. 122 Squadron, where he would become a Flight Commander and later Squadron Commander. He later rose to acting Wing Commander. His final total for the war was 21 (or possibly 22) air victories, an impressive score bettered by only around a dozen Royal Air Force fighter aces. After the war he remained in the RAF until 1958, before retiring and moving to Massachusetts in the United States, where he lived until his death in 1990. He is the only pilot to have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal on three separate occasions.

This Spitfire illustration by artist Rob Wisdom is a high-quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper. It is ideal for World War II history enthusiasts, Royal Air Force supporters, and fans of aviation history more generally.

12x16" art print shown. Cropping and title position (if applicable) may differ slightly on 'A' size art prints.
