Original illustration of a Supermarine Spitfire MkVc, featuring Spitfire EE602, 'Central Railways Uruguayan Staff'. EE602 was a 'Presentation Spitfire' purchased through a donation from the British Patriotic Committee, an organisation representing the British expat community in Uruguay. EE602 was initially allocated to No. 66 Squadron RAF in October 1942, taking part in Instep operations over France. In February 1943 the aircraft was reassigned to No. 129 (Mysore) Squadron at RAF Ibsley, taking part in bomber escort operations, and later was moved again to No. 453 Squadron RAAF.
The Spitfire MkV was primarily manufactured at Castle Bromwich, and was introduced into RAF service in early 1941. To aid in dogfights against the Luftwaffe's Focke-Wulf Fw 190, some Spitfire MkVs - this example included - had clipped wingtips, giving them better performance at low altitudes and a higher roll rate. The Mk Vc sported the Type C 'universal' wing.
This Spitfire illustration by artist Rob Wisdom is a high-quality Giclée art print on cotton-rich fine art paper. It is ideal for World War II history enthusiasts, Royal Air Force supporters, and fans of aviation history more generally.
